May, 2010 - Three staff members of White Oak Conservation Center, including 2 veterinary technicians and the current veterinary technician intern, recently traveled to Disney’s Animal Kingdom to attend Association of Zoo Veterinary Technicians Mini-Regional Conference.

A total of 37 people attended this 2-day conference. Six states were represented. In addition to gaining useful knowledge on relevant topics, such as parasite monitoring and control, Senior Veterinary Technician Marcie Oliva said that the conference had further value.

“The conference was especially useful for Pia, our intern. She had exposure to several new topics and was able to network with other technicians. A brief tour of Disney’s veterinary hospital gave Laura (WOCC veterinary technician) and I a few ideas which may be implemented here in the near future. Laura and I also were able to renew connections with other technicians.”

These ongoing training and education opportunities help staff access the most current resources available, providing more tools to maintain the highest standards in animal health and care.
