Field Conservation Projects

White Oak Conservation Center promotes conservation of flagship species and their natural habitats through integrated partnerships, capacity building, and practical approaches to wildlife management.  The animals we care for at the Center are important ambassadors representing threatened wildlife species.  Through cooperative breeding programs with zoos, quality health care and animal management, applied research projects, and focused training and outreach efforts, the Conservation Center’s cranes, cheetahs, rhinos, okapis and antelopes are part of a global resource, an important reservoir in the event of the extinction of wild populations.

A critical aspect of our work integrates the species programs at White Oak with field conservation projects around the world.  Through a holistic approach linking scientific management, reintroductions, wildlife and habitat protection, community awareness and land stewardship, the Conservation Center strives to highlight and enhance species conservation.  As keystone species within their natural environments, these species –based projects often have positive impacts on entire threatened ecosystems, which include lesser known, but no less important, habitats and wildlife.

The non-profit arm of our organization serves as a conduit for fund raising and distribution in support of international species linked conservation projects.  The priorities for conservation project support relate directly to the species programs of White Oak Conservation Center.
